From the Designer
Hey, I’m Anton—one of the designers at Light My Bricks. I’ve always loved the classic Pixar intro with Luxo Jr., so lighting up this LEGO® set was a nostalgic treat. Now, having him glowing on my bedside table brings those childhood memories to life, just as fun as I remember, but with a little extra shine.
Lighting Inspiration
Luxo Jr. is such an iconic little character, and I wanted to bring that same animated energy to life through lighting. Instead of just placing a single light inside the globe, I combined a few different elements to make him feel like a real, functional lamp.
I used an Astro Regular String (6LED) Warm White light inside the globe to create an even internal glow, then added a Solar Light - Warm White in the centre to intensify it. To finish it off, I placed a second Solar Light behind the globe, helping to throw more light forward through the lampshade. Together, these lights give Luxo Jr. a warm, focused glow that lights up his surroundings, just like the real thing. And the best part? He’s still fully poseable, ready to bounce and play just like in the Pixar intro.
Feature Highlights
The Glowing Globe
The globe of Luxo Jr.’s lamp is the centrepiece of this lighting build, and achieving a soft, realistic glow was all about precision and layering. Inside the globe, I mounted the Astro Regular String (6LED) Warm White light onto the perimeter studs, securing it in place using trans-clear plates. These clear elements not only hold the lights in position but also help guide and diffuse the light evenly across the interior.
To enhance the glow, I used additional trans-clear plates to fill in the gaps between sections of the globe. This allows the light to leak subtly through the entire structure and into the lampshade above. A Solar Light - Warm White is placed at the centre of the globe to intensify the overall brightness, while another Solar Light is mounted behind the globe to throw a soft beam forward. The combination of these three light sources creates a wide, warm spotlight effect, making Luxo Jr. feel like a fully functional lamp, full of personality and charm.
